SUMMARY:Fueling the Journey: Nutrition and Community Supports for Caregivers
DESCRIPTION:Caring for others often leads caregivers to neglect their own health\, but maintaining good nutrition is essential for staying strong.\n\n\n\nCaring for someone else often means putting your own needs last. Many caregivers find themselves skipping meals\, grabbing whatever is quick\, or simply running out of energy to think about their own health. But your well-being matters—and good nutrition is a key part of keeping your body and mind strong. \nOn Tuesday\, November 18\, Caregivers Alberta invites you to a supportive webinar designed with caregivers in mind. Registered Dietitian and fellow caregiver\, Suneet Jaswal\, will share both professional expertise and personal insights about how nutrition impacts caregiver health. From the risks of malnutrition and “hidden hunger” to the connection between food\, mental health\, and immune function\, Suneet will help shine a light on why nourishing yourself is an essential part of caregiving. You’ll also walk away with practical\, doable tips for making nutrition part of your daily care plan—without adding more stress to your plate. \nSUNEET JASWAL: \nSuneet Jaswal is the Registered Dietitian at Calgary Meals on Wheels with a Master’s degree in Applied Nutrition from the University of Guelph and a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Food with a minor in Psychology and certificate in Food Insecurity from Toronto Metropolitan University. With extensive experience in both clinical and community nutrition\, Suneet works to improve food security and ensure vulnerable populations have access to nourishing\, balanced meals. As a caregiver for his 98-year-old grandmother living with dementia\, Suneet has a personal understanding of the physical\, emotional\, and mental toll caregiving can take. Drawing from a background in menu development and nutrient analysis\, Suneet is passionate about making nutrition practical\, accessible\, and supportive for both caregivers and those they care for. \nWe’ll also be joined by Meals on Wheels\, who will share how their community programs and partnerships can support caregivers by making nutritious meals more accessible. \nCHRISTINE HENTSCHEL: \nChristine Hentschel is the Manager of Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships at Calgary Meals on Wheels. She oversees community partnerships that support new connections and programs to build greater collective impact\, and she contributes to collaborative committees and projects in the sector. Christine is also the resident data guru and leads internal projects to strengthen and enhance operational efficiency. Her entire career has been in the nonprofit sector\, over a decade of which has been at Calgary Meals on Wheels. \nWhether you are a caregiver yourself\, a professional supporting caregivers\, or part of an organization working alongside them\, this session offers knowledge\, tools\, and community resources that can ease the strain of caregiving by making healthy eating increasingly achievable and sustainable.

SUMMARY:Finding Your Voice: Healthcare Self-Advocacy for Caregivers
DESCRIPTION:In this webinar\, caregivers learn to advocate for their own health while supporting others\, with practical strategies and expert insights.\n\n\n\n  \nCaregivers often find themselves navigating complex healthcare systems on behalf of others\, while their own needs are overlooked or set aside. This interactive panel webinar focuses on the importance of self-advocacy in healthcare—empowering caregivers to speak up for their own care while continuing to support someone else. \nFeaturing three diverse perspectives—a caregiver with lived experience\, a healthcare professional\, and a health advocate—this session will explore the real-world challenges caregivers face when accessing care for themselves. Panelists will discuss common barriers\, such as time constraints\, guilt\, and system complexity\, and share practical strategies for communicating needs\, setting boundaries\, and navigating appointments\, referrals\, and care plans. \nParticipants will gain insight into how self-advocacy is not only beneficial but essential to sustaining long-term caregiving. The webinar will also highlight how healthcare providers and advocacy supports can partner with caregivers to improve outcomes for everyone involved. \nThis session is designed to be practical\, reflective\, and supportive\, offering caregivers tools\, language\, and confidence to prioritize their own health—without compromising the care they provide to others. \nHost: Johnna Lowther\, Director of Programs and Services\, Caregivers Alberta

SUMMARY:Unity in Care: Exploring Cultural Differences
DESCRIPTION:A powerful conversation on how culture\, values\, and lived experience shape caregiving—and universal themes that bring caregivers together.\n\n\n\n  \nCaregiving is a deeply meaningful role that is shaped by culture\, family traditions\, values\, and lived experience. In this engaging webinar\, “Title”\, caregivers and community voices come together for this panel discussion exploring how caregiving is experienced across different cultural backgrounds. \nPanelists will share personal stories and insights into how culture can influence expectations\, family roles\, communication\, and approaches to care. While cultural perspectives on caregiving may differ—ranging from who provides care\, how decisions are made\, and when outside help is sought—this conversation will also highlight the common experiences that connect caregivers across all cultures. Themes such as love\, responsibility\, stress\, resilience\, and the need for understanding and support are universal. \nThe discussion will also emphasize that caregiving supports and resources exist for everyone\, regardless of cultural background. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on their own caregiving journey\, gain greater cultural awareness\, and learn how to access supports that respect and align with their values. \nThis webinar is open to caregivers of all backgrounds and anyone interested in building more inclusive\, culturally responsive caregiving communities. \nHost: Johnna Lowther\, Director of Programs and Services\, Caregivers Alberta
